    Incoming E-Mail Settings

I am having problems setting up my incoming mail server for public e-mail. We are an exchange 2010 environment, I have validated POP3 is enabled for the user account, I can setup an account in outlook for POP3 and it works I have also validated my POP3 connector authentication type is plaintext. I can also telnet to the public IP on port 110 and I get a response.

Below is the error:> Connecting to Pop3 server...
< +OK The Microsoft Exchange POP3 service is ready.
    > USER help
< -ERR Command is not valid in this state.
RqType = 1 POP3 error 500 -ERR Command is not valid in this state.

    Re: Incoming E-Mail Settings

Thanks for asking (my answer here also covers your email).

Another user had the same problem and once they've fixed it they sent us the following:

The problem was the POP3 security on the exchange server. I had to set this to simple password (not supporting TSL) and then the connection happened fine.
    Please give it a try.

If you are referring to have plaintextauthentication for the pop3 this is already set, I am not currently using TLS. I also changed the password on the account to a less complex password and I am still getting the same error.
