Under accounts , i want to list all the active customers. I select customers in the filter and active but every user associated to the customer is listed. In the type filed it will have an * for all secondary contacts.

Is there a way to list just the account and primary contact?

On the Find bar, if you click the box where it says [all types] then you can uncheck Show secondary contacts in the drop-down list. You can also make it the default by going to Tools > Options > Accounts and unchecking Show secondary contacts.
