    Pre Sales Question

    Hi,

wanted to know a little more about the asset tracking of this software. A little about what we do first, for better understanding of our requirments...

We are a technology company that specializes in computer repair service, Home Theater installations and service, cctv installations, telecommunications and catv/satellite service and repair. We also sell a number of custom built computers about (15) a month. Looking for a way to print bar codes and attach these bar codes to the inside of the pc. If, for any reason the computers our in for repair... we would like to be able to scan the bar code and have the customer information be displayed on the screen. Name, phone, address, Warranty information such as start and end date, service history, etc.

Is this possible with this software and if so, will any USB bar code reader work?

    Thanks

    Re: Pre Sales Question

    Thank you for posting this.

Sure, you can achieve the above using [urlmp=/wiki/Assets]Assets[/urmpl] in RangerMSP. You can enter different information for Asset such as Warranty expiration date, Purchase and Installation dates. Each Asset can optionally be assigned with unique Asset Code then print it as barcode labels. RangerMSP provides several label formats that were adjusted for DYMO printers and can be further customized if required. Asset labels can be found in the Reports Window, in the Assets category.

You can use any Barcode reader as it actually acts as a keyboard. When it scans and reads the label the number behind the barcode label will be automatically typed in the field where the cursor blinks as if the user has typed them.

For example, if you need to search for a device just brought in for repair you can either manually copy the Asset code from a label (not-barcode) attached to the device OR - if you use barcode lables you simply scan it and the code is automatically "typed" for you in the Asset search field. All you need is click Enter to find the Asset.

    Hope this helps.
