In viewing the item list using the web interface it shows all items whether they are suspended or not. Is there a way on the web interface to hide the suspended items like we can on the desktop version?

Yes, it is possible to hide suspended items using the Web Interface.

You should create a filter in the Items window using the client application and then use it in the Web Interface.
Restart the 'RangerMSP Web Interface' service or IIS is required to have newly created filters show up immediately.
