Linking documents to assets

Is there a way to link a document from one part of an account record to another?

I have a document in the general part of the account and I want the same document to appear in the document tab of an asset. Can this be done with only one document stored?

Yes, you can do this by linking the document to the asset. In the document properties you have an option to link to an entity, and you can chose which kind of entity you wish to link to (Opportunity, Ticket, Contract, Asset or Knowledge Base Article).
